The Science Learning Hub Pokapū Akoranga Pūtaiao has a range of Professional Learning Development (PLD) opportunities designed specifically for New Zealand science teachers.
You can access the Teacher PLD section from anywhere on the site.
The Introducing our PLD article is a great place to start. You'll find webinars, advice on planning and pedagogy, and links to our Pinterest and social media.
Our PLD webinars are free for anyone to attend. Every webinar is saved to the site as a video you can watch at any time. This one features collaboration with a primary science educator. Besides the video file, most webinars have a slideshow you can browse or download. There's a timecoded index that lets you search the video for content you need.
The Planning section includes contexts for learning, learning from home, building science concepts, support with building collections, and much more. We have a range of unit plans as well as planning pathways. These are a unique type of Professional Learning Development for teachers.
You can browse content to see which resources match the achievement objectives you are wanting to teach.
The Pedagogy section is about applying these resources in your classroom. There's resources on forming connections, fostering belonging, and deepening learning at home or in the classroom. For instance, here's a resource delving in the psychology of how learners might develop different ideas about science concepts, and how to work with them on those ideas. There are lots of different images, videos and resources, as well as pointers for how to engage discussions, deepen understanding, and use these resources effectively in the classroom.
Related content and activity ideas have suggestions for further resources you can use with your learners.
Lastly, we have links where you can sign up to our newsletter and contact the team on email or social media. If you have questions about Professional Learning Development, we're here to help.
