Antarctic sea ice cycle

This timelapse shows part of the sea ice cycle. The land fast sea ice 'breaks out' in front of Scott Base in early 2025 and is swept out to sea by the wind and tides.

Discussion points

In this video, try to identify examples of:

  • pack ice – floating rafts of ice out in the sea that move with waves and tides

  • land-fast ice – ice that is locked to the land.

This video has no sound.
