Waka huia

Carved wooden waka huia or treasure box

A waka huia (treasure box) made of wood and inlaid with pāua shell. The carver was Patoromu Tamatea of Ngāti Tamateautahi. Waka huia would often have huia feathers stored in them to keep them safe.
