Elastic Catapult Workshops

04 July 2026 - 18 July 2026

Region(s): Auckland

Type(s): experiences

Get ready to launch your creativity sky-high with some fun elastic catapult building!

In these workshops, kids will design, build, and test elastic-powered catapults using simple materials. By adjusting the number and arrangement of popsicle sticks, they will explore how elasticity and deflection affect force, distance, and projectile motion. They will then compete in a fun 'Flying Pom Poms' pyramid cup challenge. Along the way, participants will learn about elastic, potential, and kinetic energy while developing problem-solving skills.

Workshops are held on a number of days and at various locations around Auckland during the July school holidays.

About Robogals

Robogals is a student-run global organisation started in 2008 with the mission to inspire and empower young women to pursue STEM fields. This is done by running hands-on workshops at schools and libraries around Auckland. These are run by volunteers from the University of Auckland. The workshops are completely free of charge, and are only possible from the support of kind sponsors.
