Data Detectives
03 April 2026 - 19 April 2026
Region(s): Auckland
Type(s): experiences
In MOTAT's April holiday experience, discover how numbers tell stories as we turn data science and statistics into hands-on holiday fun for the whole whānau.
In Data Detectives get ready to jump, test and vote these school holidays as MOTAT dives into the exciting world of data science and statistics. This hands-on experience brings maths to life, showing how we collect, display and interpret information in fun, practical ways.
Take on the Data Circuit and become part of a growing set of real-time graphs. Test your jump height, grip strength or reaction speed, then watch your results added to large displays that build across the week. See how different ages compare and discover how data can tell the story of how we grow and change.
Help create a living Map of Auckland by marking where you travelled from and how you got here. As the map fills with colour, hot spots will appear, revealing patterns about our community across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Little learners can uncover nature’s own data at Tree Rings, where crayon rubbings reveal the hidden story inside a tree trunk. Each ring represents a year of growth, turning a simple creative activity into a beautiful lesson in data visualisation.
Join MOTAT for a holiday filled with movement, discovery and hands-on fun — and see how data is everywhere. Admission to this holiday event is included in the General Admission ticket.
Location: MOTAT, 805 Great North Road & 98 Motions Road, Western Springs, Auckland.
