Career advice: Do you have an ego?

What other qualities do scientists have?

Transcript

Warren McNabb (AgResearch) As a science manager, my view of scientists is, in fact, they’re more like people who play in orchestras, artists. They are an interesting bunch of people. You have to have a certain amount of egotism. You know, you are trying to answer the questions that no one else knows the answer to. I mean, that is a pretty good definition of egotism. You have got be inquiring; you’ve got to have an inquiring mind. You just want to fiddle with stuff. You just want to know why it works, and it’s a creative business.
