A fresh new look for 2025
In 2005, we launched an online resource – The Biotechnology Learning Hub, which featured case studies, examples of effective classroom and internet-based teaching methodologies and live video conferencing between scientists and schools – all ground-breaking pedagogy at the time. In 2007 it was joined by its sister site – The Science Learning Hub. The sites have evolved over the years to become the Science Learning Hub Pokapū Akoranga Pūtaiao – reflecting changes in the education and science sectors.
Along the way, there have been technological upgrades and ongoing tweaks to ensure our site stays up-to-date and responsive to the needs of our audience.
Our website’s evolution
The Science Learning Hub has come a long way in its nearly two decades of existence. Website technology has advanced significantly, and we continue to update the Hub’s platform to reflect this. We’ve also doubled the number of resources on offer.

What’s new for 2025?
We’ve made lots of small changes to improve user experience. Many of these are to enhance accessibility – our pages have an easier-to-read font and a cleaner design. Although our resources are created for educators, we recognise that they are also widely used by students and members of the public.

Small changes for ease of use
The 2025 refresh includes tweaks to functionality – small changes that make it easier to use the site.
We’ve moved the various tabs and buttons and grouped them on the right-hand side of the page. The buttons remain available as users scroll down the page – making it easier to favourite or add to a collection, or to check which concepts or topics the resource supports.
Our regular site users will notice some additional changes to make navigation and creating collections easier – however, most of it is business as usual.

Accessing māramatanga Māori content
You can easily view a māramatanga Māori insight by selecting the māramatanga Māori tab button on the right-hand side.
To go back to the original resource – just select the highlighted Māramatanga Māori tab.
Small changes often require a lot of effort
Websites are akin to living creatures – they need to be looked after and occasionally, there needs to be concerted efforts for security and longevity. We would like to thank the team at Haunt Digital – the tech wizards behind our website – for their ongoing work to keep the Hub innovative, intuitive and user-friendly! The Haunt team and the Hub team have been working behind the scenes for many months to make this transition as smooth as possible. There’s been a lot of testing and tweaking . . . and we’re excited with what our refreshed site has to offer.
We’d love to hear what you think of these changes or if we’ve missed something in our testing and tweaking. Use one of our feedback tools or contact us.

The Hub's glossary feature gives easy access to terms and definitions useful in scaffolding science education. This resource gives some extra tips for its use.
We curate resources via topics and concepts. This resource explains why it is important to have an awareness of the science concepts that underpin the topics that we teach.
The Hub has a very useful collections tool. Hub users who are signed in can access the tool to create their own collections, collaborate on collections, add their own notes (with both a private and public-only view) and share their collections.
