  • Aotearoa New Zealand in space! And we do it really well. There is so much innovation happening within the space sector, and we are so excited to be working with some key industry people through this project, including New Zealand’s very own Space Agency.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) are investing in this mahi and both the Science Learning Hub – Pokapū Akoranga Pūtaiao and Otago Museum have received funding. We will do what we do best – develop robust key resources to support teaching and learning. We are also working on a pretty awesome new online interactive – watch this space!

Otago Museum is the successful applicant under the Aotearoa New Zealand in Space Call for Proposals, and they will develop and deliver the Tūhura Tuarangi – Aotearoa in Space Showcase. An awesome travelling roadshow with some very cool hands-on interactive activities!

Together we will be sharing research stories, technological advances, exploring how working in and with the space sector can change lives and environments as well as highlighting the importance and relevance of the role mātauranga Māori has in our understanding of space.

Learning about the space industry offers a range of opportunities to engage in discussion, build curiosity and explore questions such as “What do the stars tell us?”, “What is in space?”, “How do satellites work?”, "How can I be involved in the space industry or be an astronaut?” It creates opportunities to explore new concepts and debate ethical issues around space junk and the use of global satellites. Inspiring generations to engage and contribute to Aotearoa New Zealand's Space industry.
