Microtruss structures

Two microtruss structures, Triangular white one a brown background and a Hexagonal white one on a blue background.

Researchers created different microtruss structures from ceramic-polymer composite with 3D laser lithography. The miniaturised architecture benefits from structural advantages and size-dependent materials’ strengthening effects.

The hexagonal or ‘honeycomb’ microtruss structure achieved strength-to-weight ratios and outperformed other structures like the triangular one.
