Linnean classification system for plants

Diagram of the Linnean classification system.

The Linnean classification system places organisms within hierarchical groups that show their relationship to other organisms.

When classifying plants, the use of either division or phylum for the second grouping is allowed under the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.
