Embryologist Ian Wilmut and Dolly the sheep

Professor Sir Ian Wilmut (7 July 1944–10 September 2023) and Dolly (July 1996–February 2003), a female sheep. Dolly was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult using the process of nuclear transfer. Professor Sir Wilmut lead the work at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh. Cloning research is ongoing. Debates about the benefits, risks and the ethics of cloning continue.
