Biozone hominin skull comparisons

The physical evolution of hominins is marked by skeletal changes and brain expansion. Skulls can reveal information about brain size, diet and movement.
For example, the foramen magnum is the large opening at the base of the skull through which the spinal cord passes to connect to the brain. Its positioning tells us how the skull sat on top of the spine, which in turn offers clues on whether the hominin stood upright and was bipedal.
This 3D interactive model allows students to click on different skulls to learn more about evolving adaptations.
