Specimen collected by Darwin 

1830s mounted seaweed specimen with hand written notes

Darwin collected this coralline algae specimen from the Southern Ocean in the early 1830s while aboard the survey vessel the Beagle. The specimen and Darwin's notes about it are housed at the Trinity College Herbarium in Dublin.
