Pukatea buttresses

Flared trunk of a Pukatea (Laurelia novae-zelandiae) tree.

Pukatea (Laurelia novae-zelandiae) trees develop flared trunks called buttresses. The buttresses help to stabilise the tree in swampy conditions.
