Taste introduction

Simple illustration of human mouth and tongue

Taste is one of the main functions of the tongue.
On the upper surface of the tongue, there are many small bumps, or papillae, that house the taste buds.
There are about 10,000 taste buds on the tongue.
The taste buds allow us to determine if something is sweet, sour, salty, bitter or umami (savoury).
