Cook Strait faults

Map of Cook Strait (New Zealand) faults

Computer modelling by GNS Science has revealed the location of the fault (in yellow) that ruptured under Cook Strait on 21 July 2013. The fault is about 40 km long, and about half of its total length ruptured, producing a magnitude 6.5 earthquake.
