electric charge

Definition

A physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force in an electromagnetic field. It exists in two types: negative and positive. An excess of electrons gives it a negative charge whereas a deficiency of electrons gives it a positive charge. Electrons carry a negative charge and protons carry a positive charge. Ions carry a positive or negative charge.
