parts per million

Definition

  1. A commonly used term to describe a very small amount of something: one part in one million parts. For example, 32 seconds out of a year is 1 part per million (ppm).

  2. In chemistry, a unit of measure for very small concentrations (dilutions). This can be expressed as milligrams per litre (mg/L).
