SLH: AI and science teaching

28 July 2026 - 18 August 2026

Region(s): Nationwide

Type(s): professional Development

Join a community of educators to explore the opportunities and implications of AI in science education and how it might impact your classroom practice.

This 4-week course will provide you with tools and resources to critically engage with AI, helping you apply emerging technologies in your thinking, planning and student learning outcomes. Through interactive discussions, you'll connect with colleagues, share ideas, and explore real examples of how AI is being used in diverse learning environments.

Together, we can create a vibrant educational experience that not only broadens your understanding of AI and its place in education but also empowers you to confidently navigate change and prepare students for an increasingly AI-influenced world.

This is a 4-week part-time online professional learning course and requires a weekly time commitment of 2–3 hours.

The 4 weeks will include three 1-hour online webinars and self-directed learning, including forum contributions.

  • Week one: online live session – 28 July, 4–5 pm

  • Week two: online live session – 4 August, 4–5 pm

  • Week three: supported self-directed learning activities and forum discussions

  • Week four: online live session – 18 August, 4–5 pm

This opportunity is free and is only available for New Zealand educators. The course will be valuable for teachers of all levels with priority given to phase 4 and 5 teachers. We encourage you to register your interest regardless of the year level you teach. Spaces are currently limited to 50 participants – depending on demand, we may extend this.

This session will be valuable for both primary and secondary school teachers.

The resources were great and being able to dip in and out of the course at my own pace. I really enjoyed the online meetings too and being able to discuss with other teachers the aspects of the course and learning.
