With a 'refreshed' curriculum on its way, ramping up the profile of science in 2026 will be an important step toward full implementation in 2027. The Science Roadshow experience, complete with supporting classroom ready activities, will be a big step in that direction.
The Science Roadshow provides engaging hands-on science learning experiences for ākonga while also supporting kaiako to do more science in their classrooms.
The 2026 programme is a 70 minute session which includes
Two new live shows:
Am I living? — Kei te Ora Ahau: Explores the characteristics of living things.
Kitchen chemistry — Te pūtaiao ā-kihini: Fascinating science from the pantry!
In between these two shows students have time to explore the hands-on exhibits grouped around the themes of:
Astronomy — Te mātai arorangi
Fair Tests — Ngā whakamātau tika
Human Performance — Mahi tangata
Movement — Te nekeneke
Sight and Illusion — Te kitenga me ngā kitenga mariko
Using Numbers — Te whakamahi tau

Fair testing (This collection supports the Fair Tests – Ngā whakamātau tika theme – but it is also useful for anyone wanting to conduct a fair test.)
Smell testing and observation (This collection supports the Human Performance – Mahi tangata theme – but it is also useful for anyone using smell as the context to teach about senses and/or observation.)
Movement (This collection supports the Movement – Te nekeneke theme – but it is also useful for anyone interested in the forces that underpin movement.
Making measurements (This collection supports the Using Numbers – Te whakamahi tau theme – but it is also useful for anyone interested in historical and scientific approaches to measurement.)
