Oceania MathsJam Gathering (OMG for short) is an annual weekend get-together to share maths puzzles, games, insights, ideas, network and generally have fun in a relaxed atmosphere. 

A spinoff of 
MathsJam, OMG welcomes all mathematical abilities and backgrounds, from university students to teachers, the casually maths-interested to recreational puzzlers, and professionals. In short, anyone who enjoys maths! 

A
keynote talk titled 'Information is Beautiful' by Dr Christoph Bartneck will be open to the public for koha. Christoph will present some of the foundational ideas, challenges and technologies used to turn data into 'beautiful information'. This includes examples of spectacular successes and failures.

Activity ideas

This activity shows the relevance of mathematical skills in a real-life context – making New Zealand pest-free.

Using infographics and Interpreting representations using climate data focus on how data is presented, what the representations tell us and how they get the messages across. Students can use Ministry for the Environment and Stats NZ datasets to explore regional weather data and analyse climate data, using an inquiry-based approach.
