The aim of the organisers is to continue the fine work of previous conferences in making this the premier event for the communication of new research findings about birds in Aotearoa New Zealand. In addition it will provide opportunities for discussion, networking and field trips for professional and amateur ornithologists, students and others who are interested in birds and their habitats.

The kea is endemic to New Zealand’s Southern Alps. It is the world's only alpine parrot, and is known for its intelligence and curiosity.

Workshops:

  • Mist netting: gain some experience in setting mist nets, extracting and banding birds

  • Faunatech: discover how Song Meter Acoustic Recorders can be integrated into projects as a non-invasive, cost effective, and unbiased tool.
