National Pekapeka Hui 2026
25 March 2026 - 27 March 2026
Region(s): Auckland
Type(s): conferences
National Pekapeka Hui 2026 will be in Franklin this March.
Since the 2023 hui, the bat-conservation community in Aotearoa has grown in ambition and reach. There are more community groups active, more private landowners willing to engage, and more opportunities to integrate iwi / mana whenua knowledge with scientific research and applied practice.

Long-tailed bat
Long-tailed bats (Chalinolobus tuberculatus) used to be common throughout New Zealand, but from the 1900s, they have become increasingly scarce. They now have the highest threat ranking of nationally critical.
This 2026 hui aims to bring scientists, iwi, private landowners, community conservation practitioners and government agencies together in one forum - not just to share research, but to share people, knowledge, stories, tools and partnerships.
Location: Rereteewhioi Marae, Waiuku
