Life Behind The Lens with Doug Allan

24 February 2026 - 16 March 2026

Region(s): Otago, Canterbury, Southland, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast

Type(s): presentations

Doug Allan, the award-winning cameraman whose TV credits include Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet, is touring New Zealand's South Island. Join him for an unforgettable evening of stories and insights from decades of filming the natural world.

In this 90 minute presentation Doug will take you up close and personal with the animals that live in the wildest places on earth – illustrated by his images and clips from the TV series.

  • What's it like to face a hungry polar bear and its cubs as they emerge from their den?

  • How do you make sure you don't lose that important dive hole when you’re filming seals under the ice?

  • Or how do you behave in the company of a humpback whale underwater to gain her trust?

For me, wildlife cameramen don’t come much more special than Doug. There’s just no one else who knows these frozen worlds as he does
