Region(s): Wellington
Type(s): experiences, presentations
Step into the fascinating world of George Vernon Hudson – New Zealand’s pioneer naturalist and the father of daylight saving!
Join Te Papa’s insect and art curators for a free inspiring journey through the life and legacy of one of Aotearoa’s most passionate naturalists. By day Hudson worked as a humble post office clerk, but in his spare time he was out in the wilds of Wellington, collecting, studying and meticulously illustrating insects.
During the event, you'll get the rare chance to view original artworks, hear the stories behind them, and learn about current research projects. The event concludes with a special viewing of Hudson’s extraordinary insect collection, housed in the original kauri cabinets of the Dominion Museum – a time capsule of Wellington and Aotearoa’s natural history.
