Earthquake science at the cutting-edge
18 August 2025 - 18 August 2025
Region(s): Nationwide, Wellington
Type(s): presentations
In the 2025 S. N. Jepson Lectureship in Seismology, three leading earthquake scientists, Associate Professor Alice-Agnes Gabriel, Dr Olaf Zielke, and Dr Jesse Kearse, will explain how novel observations and cutting-edge computer simulations are providing new insight into earthquake phenomena and the hazards they pose to society.
Using case studies from across the globe, the three speakers will explore the lessons learned from recent large earthquakes and the ways in which new observational and computational capabilities are improving the analysis of complex ruptures from the earthquake source to the impacts on society.
Venue: Lecture Theatre 1 (GBLT1), Government Buildings, 55 Lambton Quay, Wellington
