Join the Canterbury Astronomical Society for an evening under the stars as you discover the wonders of the Southern night sky with our skilled amateur astronomers. It's fun, amazingly educational and an evening that promises to be, well and truly, out of this world!
Tickets for our Kidsfest nights always sell out fast – book early to avoid disappointment – bring the kids or borrow one or two (get permission first!) and enjoy a night under the stars.
As this is a kids friendly event no lone adults sorry! You must be being supervised by your kids.
The Canterbury Astronomical Society observatory has four fixed telescopes (11", 14", 120 mm and a 16") and an assortment of portable telescopes, which will be open during the public open night programme.
Your night sky tours begins with a welcome talk starting at 7:30 pm, followed by a guided sky tour and telescope viewing until 9:00 pm. Gate opens 7:20 pm – no early admission sorry.
Opening will be dependent on the weather, so please check the website www.cas.org.nz before heading out to the observatory. A status update will be posted before 6:00 pm confirming if this event is running on the website.
