It takes several villages to create a brand new $12 million nature zone for a museum and it brings together groups from all different parts of the science community. Come and hear from 2 of Te Papa’s key partners, GNS and GeoNet, about their involvement and knowledge around bringing to life the updated Active Land space in te Taiao | Nature.

From the plate boundary to Taupo Volcanic Zone: cutting edge earth science and risk management in the new Te Taiao active land exhibit.

Graham Leonard, GNS, will speak about tectonics, subduction, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and risk science components of Te Taiao. With particular research expertise around volcanoes, tsunamis and risk.

GeoNet Technology: What it takes to go from detecting shaking across New Zealand to sending an earthquake’s location and magnitude to your phone in 2 minutes

Caroline Little, GNS Science, will talk about the GeoNet Project and the journey necessary to transform shaking recorded on hundreds of seismographs around the country into an ever-growing catalogue of 600,000 earthquakes you can explore with the interactive earthquake display that is part of Te Taiao.

Venue: Level 2, Te Papa, Cable Street, Wellington
