Explore the science behind the sun in a fun-filled, hands-on exhibition that will appeal to all ages, but especially to children and young adults.

Sunlight – Ihi Kōmaru tells the story of sunlight – how the sun’s energy and light sustain our lives and shape the world around us – through easily-accessible science and 16 different interactives, games and experiences.

Climb inside a giant inflatable to find out what the Sun sounds like. Race friends and family to see how long it would take to travel the distance from Earth to the Moon. Learn how light behaves and reacts to various mediums. Understand how light has influenced life and culture for millions of years.

Light can be reflected, refracted, dispersed, polarised and scattered. Create your own vibrant shadows in the colour mixing game, arrange prisms to make intricate light patterns, see how beams travel from mirror to mirror in a laser maze and move polarisation filters around a secret screen to see hidden images.

Solve the solar secret by completing an ultraviolet scavenger hunt and you could win a prize.

Venue: Canterbury Museum, Rolleston Avenue, Christchurch.
