The College of Science and the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences are offering Year 12 and 13 students throughout New Zealand the chance to attend a 5 day astronomy camp in Christchurch and Tekapo.

As you can see from this video of last year’s students, the annual Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School camp is an inspiring experience for the 20 successful applicants.

The camp takes place 16-20 April at the University of Canterbury's Ilam campus in Christchurch and the Mt John Observatory in Tekapo. Students meet other like-minded people who share their passion for astronomy and astrophysics. A highlight for students on the camp is stargazing using the telescopes at the Observatory.

One of last year's attendees, created her own video of the experience. You can watch it here.

There is no charge for the camp – even travel costs are covered by the generous sponsor.

Applications close on Monday 5 March.
