Did you know that 2024 marks 20 years of SCANZ (Science Communicators Association of New Zealand), and amid other big changes in both the science and science communication landscape, this makes conference theme particularly relevant:
Past Insights, Future Directions: learning from the past to inform the future
The 2024 conference will be held 20–22 November in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, at Auckland University of Technology’s (AUT) central city campus. It is Aotearoa New Zealand’s only dedicated science communication event. The program is built around speakers, panel discussions and workshops that explore and celebrate science communication.
The conference theme takes inspiration from the whakataukī Ka mua, ka muri which encourages us to keep our eyes on our past as we head into our futures.
As SCANZ celebrates its 20th year, there have also been major changes to the landscape we work within: political, funding, environmental and social. Our jobs and our institutes continue to adapt in response to these changes, and this 20th anniversary seems to be a fitting moment to take stock of our past, present and future.
