The theme for Primary Science Week 2023 is Citizen Science. This annual event is organised by the New Zealand Association of Primary Science Educators (NZAPSE) as an opportunity for all New Zealand schools to engage in science learning.

The New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE) wants primary schools to give citizen science a go. Whether you have a short session or a whole term, working with scientists to collect or process data is engaging and rewarding, and there’s so many different projects to choose from.

NZAPSE has collated resources to support teachers to dip their toes into community based science and they are pretty sure you are going to want to jump right in. From online international projects looking at the microscopic or the far reaches of space, to getting your hands dirty exploring the diversity of your school grounds you can participate in real science.

On the Primary Science Week 2023 page there is information to help get you started participating in a Citizen Science project or creating your own. You will also find a large range of projects from New Zealand and around the world that you can involve your classes in. Keep an eye on this page as more information is added.

Prior to and during Primary Science Week there will be free online sessions available to inspire and support you including, Science in a Van’s Hive Mind on 4 May.
