April is Takahē Awareness Month and it's the perfect time to go meet your local takahē. Join us to celebrate takahē and recognise Ngāi Tahu, the Takahē Recovery Programme and the network of people involved in ensuring the takahē is never considered extinct again.

Takahē Awareness Month competition

Over the month of April The Department of Conservation are celebrating Takahē Awareness Month with giveaways to six sanctuaries around New Zealand where you can meet a takahē.

There are ten family passes up for grabs, to use at one of the following sanctuaries:

  • Auckland Zoo
  • Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari
  • Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre
  • ZEALANDIA
  • Willowbank Wildlife Reserve
  • Orokonui Ecosanctuary
