Van der Veer Institute for Parkinson's & Brain Research
The Van der Veer Institute for Parkinson’s & Brain Research is a multi-institutional
organisation that brings together, in one organisation, biologists, engineers, physicists, psychologists, medical doctors and speech and language therapists, all with a common interest in brain science.
In bringing everyone together, the institute hopes to form a multidisciplinary centre of excellence for the treatment of and research into the brain.
The institute was formed in 2002 and is a partnership between the University of
Canterbury, University of Otago, Canterbury District Health Board and Canterbury Medical Research Foundation.
The Van der Veer Institute is divided into two overlapping divisions:
- Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders Division – Evaluation, treatment and research, which provides both basic research and clinical treatment for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease and related conditions.
- Brain Research Division – Research into brain injury and disease, brain function and neurotechnology.
