Student Activity - Floating eggs
Activity idea
By the end of this exercise students should understand that an egg floats in fresh water, but sinks when salt is added because salt increases the density of water.
Instructions
What you will need:
- One raw egg (fresher is best)
- Salt
- Water
- Ice cream container
Instructions:
- Fill the ice cream container with water.
- Drop the egg into the container.
- Observe what happens.
- Add in a tablespoon of salt and mix.
- Continue adding salt and observe what happens.
