Student Activity - Float my boat

Activity idea

In this activity, students design and build boats and are encouraged to use the scientific method through testing different boat designs.

Instructions

Whether you are in a yacht, a luxury cruise liner or a canoe, all boats have one thing in common – they must float. Boat builders must think carefully about their designs to ensure that the boats do not just sink to the bottom of the ocean. Do you think you have what it takes to build a good boat?

Ships travelling to Antarctica face an extra challenge – they must be able to contend with sea ice. Learn more about Antarctic sea ice, including what it is and why it is important.

Science Learning Hub Survey 2014

Dear Hub visitor,

You're invited to participate in an online survey about the New Zealand Science Learning Hub. This survey was designed to help Hub staff enhance and develop further the site. This is different from our November 2013 survey, so even if you took part in that survey, we would appreciate you taking this survey as well.
