Nga Manu Nature Reserve
The Nga Manu Trust established Nga Manu Nature Reserve on a 13-hectare site in Waikanae, north of Wellington, in 1974. The aims of the trust are education, conservation and preservation of New Zealand’s unique native flora and fauna.
Visitors to Nga Manu Nature Reserve can expect to see a wide variety of native plant and animal life. There are more than 700 species of native plants present and over 56 different bird species at the reserve.
Staff at Nga Manu are involved in the conservation of the flora and fauna surrounding them. Bird and animal rehabilitation programmes are present, and the Nga Manu Trust sponsors research initiatives through Victoria University in Wellington and Massey University in Palmerston North for honours and master’s students.
The Nga Manu website contains education resource sheets, posters and images of native wildlife that can be used for educational purposes.
Nga Manu Nature Reserve caters for individuals and groups with educational programmes available. The reserve is open daily from 10am–5pm excluding Christmas Day.
Visit the Nga Manu website to download educational resources. There are many images on site of native flora and fauna.
