Exploring squished rocks

Looking at the direction of ‘squish’ in a rock sample by using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).

Allan Mitchell and Dave Prior analyse squishing (deformation) of rocks from the Alpine Fault zone. They are using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to analyse electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). This technique looks at the direction in which rocks have been deformed over time.
